Not all gift cards behave the same once you redeem them. Buy the wrong product type — even for the right brand — and you can end up with balance locked in a ledger you cannot use for your intended purchase. This chapter maps the landscape so you always buy the correct SKU on Gyftpe.
Closed-loop brand cards
A closed-loop card spends within one merchant ecosystem. The rupees cannot leave that app.
Examples on Gyftpe:

Best for: predictable, repeat spend on a single platform. If you order Swiggy four times a week, a Swiggy closed-loop card is the cleanest match — every rupee goes to food.
Watch for: balance is usually non-transferable after redemption. You cannot move Swiggy Money to Zomato.
Wallet-style and semi open-loop cards
Wallet-style products credit a payments wallet that may work across multiple touchpoints — not just the parent store’s shopping cart.

Amazon Pay balance can pay:
- Amazon.in orders (with some exclusions)
- Partner merchants accepting Amazon Pay
- Select bills and recharges (rules change — verify in-app)
This flexibility is powerful but dangerous if you buy the wrong Amazon product. Amazon also sells:
| Product | Lands in | Typical use |
|---|---|---|
| Amazon Pay gift card | Amazon Pay wallet | Shopping + partners + some bills |
| Amazon shopping voucher | Gift card balance (separate ledger) | Amazon.in product purchases only |
Mixing these up is among the top redemption errors. Our Amazon Pay brand guide walks through screenshots and ledger paths.
Open-loop vs closed-loop: decision guide
| Question | If yes → |
|---|---|
| Spend is 90%+ on one app? | Closed-loop (Swiggy, Myntra, Nykaa) |
| Need bills + shopping from one wallet? | Wallet-style (Amazon Pay) |
| Gifting to someone who picks their store? | Brand-specific card for their favourite app |
| Unsure of spend in next 60 days? | Smaller denomination closed-loop, not ₹10k wallet load |
Category map: what savers actually buy
| Your spend pattern | Gyftpe card type | Example brand page |
|---|---|---|
| Food delivery weekly | Closed-loop wallet | Swiggy, Zomato |
| Fashion sales | Closed-loop | Myntra, Ajio |
| General ecommerce | Wallet or marketplace | Amazon Pay, Flipkart |
| Quick commerce | Closed-loop | Blinkit, BigBasket |
| Travel | Closed-loop | MakeMyTrip, Cleartrip |
| Entertainment | Closed-loop | BookMyShow |

Denominations and product variants
Within one brand, Gyftpe may list multiple denominations (₹500, ₹1,000, ₹2,000, ₹5,000) with different discount percentages. Higher face values sometimes offer better discounts because corporate inventory batches differ.
Before buying:
- Open the brand hub on Gyftpe
- Compare discount % across denominations
- Cross-check validity period
- Read redemption steps on the matching

Physical vs digital (again)
All types above are available as digital codes on Gyftpe. Physical closed-loop cards bought offline have the same ledger rules once scratched and redeemed — but you rarely get a discount offline. Digital + Gyftpe discount is the savers’ combination.
Worked example: picking the wrong type
Scenario: Priya wants to pay her broadband bill through Amazon Pay. She buys an Amazon shopping voucher at 5% off on Gyftpe — excellent discount. At bill payment, the voucher balance does not appear as a payment option. Only Amazon Pay wallet works.
Fix: Buy Amazon Pay gift card product instead. Read the product title on Gyftpe carefully — one word difference, completely different ledger.
Lesson: Match card type first, then optimise discount %.
Frequently asked questions
Is Flipkart closed-loop?
Yes — Flipkart gift card balance spends on Flipkart group properties per current T&C. See Flipkart brand guide.
Can I use Nykaa balance on offline stores?
Typically app/website only unless the brand explicitly supports offline redemption.
Are Google Play and Apple cards closed-loop?
Yes — they credit Play Store / App Store accounts only. Useful for subscriptions and in-app purchases, not for UPI-style daily spend.
